BUFFALO RUNNER (2015)
Bronze, 16.5’’ x 26’’ x 10’’
One tactic of the warrior hunters of the Great Plains would involve herding buffalo and driving them over cliffs, known as “buffalo jumps.” This technique allowed hunters to harvest the massive animals for food, clothing, and shelter.
The Buffalo Runner sculpture depicts a warrior on horseback, using a buffalo robe to stampede a herd. The backside of the robe portrays the image of a running buffalo, which symbolizes the great power, spirit, and respect that Native Americans held for the buffalo.
