Heck of a Wreck
HECK of a WRECK
Bronze, 29’’ x 26’’ x 16’’
When I look at this sculpture, it brings back memories of my own heck of a wreck on September 26,2014 on the Indian Head Ranch. I was in a full-speed matched horse race when I collided with a loose, riderless horse, which caused my horse to go down, flip over, and land on me. The cantle of the saddle landed on my left shoulder, and I broke my collarbone, shoulder blade, seven ribs, suffered a collapsed lung, and a concussion. I also received an expensive helicopter ride to the hospital, 12 new screws, and a stainless steel plate. Surprisingly, my horse came out unscathed with only some cuts and bruises, whereas I was laid up for three months. As soon as I was able, I got back on my horse and started roping again. You have three choices when something bad happens: you can have it define you; allow it to destroy you; or let it strengthen you.

Chris Navarro and Brandon Bailey have created something new and unique. They have developed a new art term and concept with the idea of incorporating sculpture and painting into a work of art. The new art term is – Sculptych a work of art incorporating sculpture and paintings that is multi-dimensional multimedia divided into sections constructing a narrative, like the frames of a film to tell a story.
