Bronze, 11’’ x 20’’ x 7’’
I created this bronze sculpture for Reach 4A Star Riding Academy, a therapeutic riding center in Casper, Wyoming. I can think of no better cause than using horses to enrich the lives of physically challenged children and adults. The natural motion and height of the horse helps to simulate the feeling of walking and also stimulates the rider’s muscles. The rider learns balance and coordination, while gaining an increased sense of confidence with every new accomplishment. The base of the bronze is shaped as an abstract diamond, symbolizing that freedom is the jewel of life. Sitting on the young mare’s back, the girl has abandoned the confinement of her wheelchair. She’s riding free and easy without saddle or bridle⎯liberated and moving forward as one with the horse.
I believe that doing good things for others in this life increases happiness for both the giver and the receiver. The old adage, “What goes around comes around,” is a motto by which I live.
